Vanessa and Sara

Today for the section Italian nurses and Italian obstetricians in Germany we introduce Vanessa and Sara:
-Why did you leave Italy?
Once we heard from an old midwife “After seeing your first birth you cannot do without it anymore! This becomes the charge of your days!”
We still remember the first tears of joy, adrenaline, the charm of a new life! And from there … you cannot do without it anymore! Why did we leave Italy? Because our wonderful country, admired by everyone for food, fashion, and sun, could no longer give us these feelings.
What moves people, like us, to discover new adventures is the desire to change, change that situation that traps us in everyday routines. Waking up in the morning with a single goal, staying behind a computer hoping to find competitions or alerts across Italy, has pushed us to look for a new nation that could really make us midwives, colleagues and friends every day.
And just during the desperate search of anything that contained the word “obstetrician”, here is the list of Google entries “we select midwives for various hospitals in Germany”.
There are always two choices in life: accepting the condition in which we live or assume the responsibility to change it. And we tried to do it.
-How did you learn German?
An easy cognitive and motivational interview on Skype led us to Civitanova Marche, where we learned German thanks to Komalingua. The school is full of very good teachers, but the best is always her, Sonja. The most fun and cheerful, she, who made us fall in love with a truly strange language, she, who made every lesson a reason for fun and leisure, she encouraged us not to stand in the way of the difficulties, because every obstacle overtaken led us ever closer to our goal.
-How do you find yourself in Germany?
Sometimes even during this journey the despair did not lack, the uncertainties and the fear were felt, it seemed too strange to be really obstetric. At first it was not easy to pack the suitcases, go to an unknown nation, and do not know what was waiting for you. So far we have managed to settle in this land but, above all, within the birth room, which is now our world. How are we in Germany? Good! Soon we became autonomous in the birth room, we work in a modern up-to-date structure that gives us the opportunity to confront not only with Italian colleagues, but also with foreigners. What really makes us happy is to have strong ties of friendship. We are people moved by a common goal, that is to change our lives and our success stems from the fact that we were not alone but found a group of friends always present and available without whom we would never have stayed here. The result of our experience is above all thanks to them.
-What do you recommend who is planning to work in Germany but still has any doubts? Continuity gives us the roots; change gives us the branches, leaving us the will to extend them and make them grow up to reach new heights. (Pauline R. Kezer)
